Missile programme of India
The IGMDP is a defence program of Indian military. The management of the program is the Defense Research and development organization. It has been started during 1980. The recent major missile developed under the program is the famous “Agni 3”, which was successfully tested during 9th July 2007.
As there is a need for the improvement in the defence programmes, during the period of Indira Gandhi, it leads to the formation of the Integrated Guided missile development programme. The defence minister R.Venkatraman, was supervising all the procedures of that missile accordingly.
The projects under the IGMDP are :-
The Agni , which means the fire, missile is a medium range surface to air missile. In a press meet, Indian government has stated that, this missile has been started for all the threats around India, and not only for the neighbor country, Pakistan. The missiles of Agni series are manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited. Trishul missile is a short range surface to air missile. It ends during Feb’2008.
Akash, which means the sky, is a medium range surface to air missile, which has been integrated to form the self-sufficiency mode. This missile, is guided by Radar. It is similar to the SA 6 missile. The first test flight was done during 1990, for Akash missile. In 2007, the Indian Air force has made user trials . It has happened for ten days. This particular Akash missile has the power to work on the electronic counter measures.
Nag, which stands for snake, is a India’s third generation “Fire and forget anti-tank missile”, and in all the missiles it is the top attack missile. Nag has been developed for Army and air force separately, as separate models. You won’t believe, Nag has made test fire for 45th time on 19th March, 2005.
Apart from the above, there are few more missiles, which has its own failures and successes. The important missile, we launched is Agni V, which has a range of 5500-5800 km. It is expected to have its operations during 2014 – 2015. And this will be helpful to meet the current threats. It has been designed in such a way it can be easy to carry through road transport. In Feb 2012, there was an expectation for the Agni V launch, but it got delayed. It got test fired successfully during 19th April 2012.
In the future, Agni V is expected to perform the MIRV – Multiple Independent Re-entry Vehicles, which has separate nuclear warheads. MIRV is a second strike missile, with few more missiles. Agni V launch results in a wide media coverage. Prime Minister Manmohan singh congratulated the Team DRDO.
China’s Foreign ministry that, “ India and China equally growing countries, we should join our hands, to maintain the peace state”. Chinese experts say the Indian missile has the potential to reach the 8000 kilometres ( 5000m) away . And our next country, has published the news about our Agni V launch.
All the countries of the world, accepts that India, has given a threat to the countries, which all giving military threats to India, through this Indian missile programmes, especially Agni V. Being an Indian, we should be proud of that. And still more human resources should be interested to work.
India, has to improve the Education system, so that more students has to work on this on future.
