How to find your strengths and weaknesses for Personal Interview?

In our previous articles we read about OLQ’s many time.  We get to know about what OLQ’s  and why they are important and what significant role do they play in selection of candidate.  We also read about SWOT analysis and its requirement.  No its time to understand the importance of SWOT analysis and how to improve this which is going to help you in building up your OLQ’s.

SWOT analysis is useful technique for understanding your strengths and weaknesses and for identifying both the opportunities open to you and the threats you face.

HOW TO USE SWOT:
Strengths and weaknesses are often internal to oneself and the organization where one is working while opportunities and threats generally relate to external factors.  For this reason the SWOT analysis is sometimes called internal-external analysis.

1. STRENGTHS:
  • What you do better than anyone else?
  • What unique or lowest resources that you can draw upon and those others can’t?
  • What do the people in your profession see as your strengths?
  • What do you proud of?
  • Consider your strengths from both an internal perspective and from the point of view of your customers and the people in your profession which you are aiming for. When looking at your strengths, think about them in relation to your profession.
2. WEAKNESSES:
  • What are the aspects you like to improve?
  • What should you avoid?
  • What people in profession likely to see as your weaknesses?
  • What factors yourself you consider weak for profession which you are aiming for?
  • Consider this from two perspectives.  One is internal and other one is external. Do other people seem to perceive weaknesses that you don’t see (for this try to understand concept behind johari’s window).  So it’s better to be practical and realistic and to realize about what you are lacking in? Accept these truths as soon as possible.
3. OPPORTUNITIES:
  • What good opportunities can you spot?
  • What interest trends are you aware of?
Tips: A useful approach when looking at opportunities is to look at your strengths and ask yourself whether these are open up to any opportunities.  Alternatively, look at your weaknesses and ask yourself whether you could open up opportunities by eliminating them.

4. THREATS:
  • What obstacles do you face or likely to face?
  • What you are desperately lacking in?
  • Are your quality standards or specifications for your profile, products or service
  • Are you lacking academic knowledge pulls you down?
  • Don’t you have resources for information gathering?
  • Could any of your weakness seriously threaten to what you are aiming for?
